EDGE Invites UAE Talent to Tackle Seamless Network Connectivity Challenge
Leading defence and technology group EDGE has launched an engineering competition for university students and recent graduates, challenging them to solve real-world problems in network connectivity across multiple technologies.
EDGE Group has unveiled an ambitious engineering challenge designed to harness the innovative potential of the UAE’s brightest students and recent graduates. Delivered as part of the Advanced Technology Pioneers (ATP) competition—a collaborative initiative established by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) and the Ministry of Education (MoE)—the challenge forms a cornerstone of the National Science, Technology and Innovation (NSTI) Festival.
The competition represents a distinctive approach to talent development, inviting participants to advance beyond theoretical concepts and develop fully functional prototypes that address genuine industry challenges. EDGE’s particular focus centres on a pressing technological problem: maintaining seamless user experience as devices transition between different network technologies, including Wi-Fi, 5G, satellite and wired connectivity.
The challenge recognises a fundamental issue in contemporary communications infrastructure. As users move between network environments or switch between access points, connectivity interruptions frequently disrupt the experience and compromise critical applications. EDGE seeks innovative solutions that eliminate these transitions, ensuring unbroken service continuity across diverse network technologies.
Sana AlDaoumi, Chief People and Organisation Effectiveness Officer at EDGE Group, articulated the strategic importance of the initiative. She emphasised that professional development extends beyond acquiring knowledge, requiring instead the capacity to engage with real-world complexity, challenge established assumptions, and take responsibility for solutions. The competition represents an investment in cultivating the technical confidence, analytical judgment and capability that will sustain the UAE’s technological sector for decades to come.
The competition welcomes teams comprising three to four members, with participants eligible at bachelor’s and master’s degree levels, or within two years of graduation. Teams may form independently within UAE universities or utilise the ChallengeON platform for recruitment. Throughout the competition period, participants will receive mentorship from subject-matter specialists to support their development.
Registration occurs through ATRC’s ChallengeON platform, which serves as the national hub for industry-led innovation challenges. The application deadline is 11 October 2026, providing substantial time for prospective teams to develop their submissions and secure any necessary institutional approvals.
