Etihad Airways to Operate Twice-Daily Service on Abu Dhabi-Sydney Route from December
The airline will double its frequency between the two cities, introducing four additional weekly flights operated by the advanced Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.
Etihad Airways is enhancing its presence on the Abu Dhabi-Sydney corridor by introducing a twice-daily service commencing 15th December 2026. The expansion represents a significant commitment to the strategic route, which the carrier has maintained since 2007.
The augmented schedule will add four weekly flights to the existing ten services, ensuring consistent daily departures in both directions. All flights will be operated by the modern Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, collectively delivering over 5,000 seats weekly in each direction. This substantial capacity enhancement reflects the growing demand for travel between Australia and the United Arab Emirates.
The A350-1000 fleet provides a sophisticated travel experience across all cabin classes. Business passengers enjoy private suites featuring sliding doors, 79-inch lie-flat beds, wireless charging and 18.5-inch entertainment screens. Economy cabin seats measure 17.4 inches in width and incorporate 13.3-inch 4K touchscreens with Bluetooth audio connectivity, whilst comprehensive high-speed Wi-Fi extends throughout the aircraft.
The timing of this expansion capitalises on Australia’s summer season and the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend in December, presenting Australian travellers with enhanced opportunities to experience the emirate’s cultural attractions. Visitors may explore the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, the cultural precinct of Saadiyat Island and the historical Qasr Al Hosn.
The Abu Dhabi Stopover programme further enriches the journey, offering complimentary hotel accommodation for one or two nights. The initiative has recently expanded to encompass Al Ain, extending experiential opportunities beyond the capital.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, emphasised that the enhanced service provides passengers with greater flexibility whilst strengthening connectivity across Etihad’s expanding network throughout the Gulf, Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Africa and Europe. Passengers utilising Sydney as a transit point gain access to further destinations across Australia and New Zealand through partnerships with Qantas, Jetstar and Air New Zealand.
Complementing this expansion, Etihad maintains daily operations between Abu Dhabi and Melbourne utilising Boeing 787 aircraft, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to the Australian market.
