UAE President inaugurates Etihad Rail’s Dubai Station, marking launch of national passenger network
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan travelled the inaugural journey from Abu Dhabi to Dubai as the Emirates' transformative rail network begins passenger services connecting three emirates.
The United Arab Emirates has taken a significant step forward in its transport infrastructure with the official inauguration of Etihad Rail’s Dubai Station, marking the commencement of the nation’s passenger rail network. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, travelled aboard the service from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, experiencing firsthand the capabilities of this landmark project ahead of its public launch.
The ceremony was attended by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs and Chairman of Etihad Rail. During his journey, the President reviewed the rail operator’s strategic objectives and passenger service offerings, which have been designed to establish a world-class travel experience across the network.
Upon arrival at Dubai’s station, His Highness engaged with Emirati professionals contributing to the project, recognising their expertise and commitment to developing the nation’s railway capabilities. The inauguration ceremony included a comprehensive tour of the facility, highlighting its advanced operational systems and technologies that facilitate seamless passenger experiences from ticketing through to boarding.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasised that the Dubai Station represents a new gateway enhancing connectivity between the emirate and the remainder of the UAE. The facility strengthens Dubai’s transport infrastructure whilst reinforcing its status as a global hub for commerce, tourism and investment.
His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan described the passenger network’s launch as a significant milestone within the Projects of the 50 initiative. Accomplished in less than five years, the integrated national network connects communities and economic centres across the emirates, expanding access to opportunities and supporting both economic and social advancement.
Commencing 30th September 2026, Etihad Rail will operate passenger services between Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Fujairah. Tickets are available through the mobile application, website and station vending machines, with fares beginning at AED39 for Comfort Class and AED109 for Premium Class.
The Dubai Station functions as a pivotal interchange connecting the national network with Dubai’s broader transport ecosystem. A dedicated pedestrian bridge links the station to Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station, facilitating direct transfer to the Dubai Metro. Integration with Dubai’s Nol system enables passengers to book Etihad Rail journeys and public transport services through a single QR code usable across train, Metro, Tram and bus networks.
Passenger operations are managed by Etihad Rail Mobility, a joint venture between Etihad Rail and Keolis, a leading international passenger transport operator. This partnership merges international railway expertise with national transport management capabilities, establishing an exceptional operational framework that delivers premium passenger experiences.
