Burjeel Cancer Institute launches mobile mammography initiative across Abu Dhabi

A state-of-the-art screening truck will visit workplaces, schools and communities throughout the emirate this October, advancing early detection and breast health awareness.
Burjeel Cancer Institute has unveiled an innovative Mobile Mammography Truck campaign designed to bring advanced breast cancer screening services directly to women across Abu Dhabi. The initiative, launched during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, represents a significant expansion of accessible preventative care throughout the emirate.
Operating with the endorsement of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, the mobile unit will visit diverse locations spanning Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain and surrounding areas. The campaign encompasses government institutions, private-sector organisations, educational facilities, shopping destinations, residential communities, and major infrastructure sites including Etihad Airways, ADNOC, Khalifa Port and Zayed Port.
The truck is equipped with advanced mammographic technology and staffed by specialised medical and technical professionals, ensuring women receive screening services within a secure, private and comfortable environment. This accessibility initiative addresses a critical healthcare objective: strengthening the culture of early detection and prevention that forms the foundation of effective cancer management.
Prof. Humaid Al Shamsi, Chief Executive Officer of Burjeel Cancer Institute, emphasised the significance of the programme. “Early detection represents one of our most powerful tools in addressing breast cancer,” he stated. The mobile service reflects the Institute’s commitment to reducing barriers to screening and advancing community health outcomes across the region.
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi’s recent designation of Burjeel Cancer Institute as a Centre of Excellence for breast cancer underscores the organisation’s specialised expertise and integrated approach to comprehensive care. Beyond the mobile screening campaign, the Institute operates the Burjeel Breast Center, a multidisciplinary facility offering coordinated services encompassing breast imaging, surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation therapy, pathology and reconstructive surgery.
Throughout October, Burjeel Cancer Institute will complement screening services with educational sessions and community activities led by specialist physicians. These initiatives address risk factors, symptom recognition, the importance of regular screening and evidence-based lifestyle practices. The comprehensive approach reflects institutional recognition that sustained breast health awareness and prevention education extend well beyond a single month.
