UAE launches comprehensive digital awareness campaign to combat evolving cyber threats
The Ministry of Interior, in partnership with Dubai Police and the Dubai Electronic Security Centre, has unveiled an ambitious initiative to educate citizens about cybercrime risks during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, with messaging already reaching millions across the emirate.
The Ministry of Interior has unveiled a strategic campaign titled “UAE is Safe With Your Digital Awareness” in collaboration with Dubai Police General Headquarters and the Dubai Electronic Security Centre. The initiative, launched in October to coincide with Cybersecurity Awareness Month, represents a coordinated effort to strengthen public understanding of electronic crime risks and protective measures across the nation.
Brigadier Saeed Al Hajri, Director of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, emphasised the campaign’s importance in addressing the evolving threat landscape. He highlighted how fraudsters increasingly exploit rapid technological advancement, with particular concern regarding the misuse of artificial intelligence in criminal activities. The campaign aims to empower citizens with knowledge about deception tactics whilst working towards the ambitious goal of eliminating cybercrime victimisation entirely.
The awareness initiative responds to genuine contemporary challenges. Children and young people face particular vulnerability, with many spending over seven hours daily on electronic devices. Recent awareness efforts have already reached eleven million individuals, demonstrating the scale of engagement required to protect vulnerable populations from emerging digital threats.
Amer Sharaf, Executive Director of the Cyber Security Systems and Services Sector at the Dubai Electronic Security Centre, stressed that awareness represents a fundamental pillar of cybersecurity resilience. In an era of sophisticated disinformation and account hijacking techniques, public education proves essential to safeguarding personal data and financial security. The collaboration brings together expertise from government agencies and private sector partners, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for digital protection.
Brigadier Dr. Abdulrahman Sharaf Al Maamari reinforced the interconnected nature of cybersecurity responsibility. Colonel Dr. Ibrahim Humaid Al Mayahi affirmed the UAE’s advanced cybersecurity infrastructure, whilst stressing that citizens themselves constitute essential partners in prevention and response efforts. This approach recognises that protection extends beyond institutional frameworks to encompass collective digital responsibility.
The campaign distinguishes itself through unprecedented partnership across public and private sectors, enabling targeted messaging for diverse community segments. Strategic workshops preceded the launch, developing comprehensive plans to maximise reach and impact throughout October. Media outlets are invited to amplify awareness of emerging cybercrime trends and technological vulnerabilities during this critical month.
