Ras Al Khaimah Chamber and Ann Arbor SPARK forge strategic economic partnership
A landmark Letter of Intent between the Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ann Arbor SPARK promises to unlock fresh opportunities for trade, innovation and entrepreneurial growth between the UAE emirate and Michigan.
The Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industry has established a formal framework for economic cooperation with Ann Arbor SPARK, a prominent economic development organisation serving Michigan’s vibrant business landscape. The Letter of Intent, signed on 1st October 2026, represents a significant commitment to fostering stronger ties between the two regions and creating tangible pathways for mutual prosperity.
Dr. Rashid Khalfan Al Nuaimi, Director-General of Ras Al Khaimah Chamber, and Phil Santer, Chief Operating Officer of Ann Arbor SPARK, formalised the agreement in the presence of Dr. Carel Richter, Advisor for International Relations at the Office of the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. The initiative aims to facilitate meaningful connections between enterprises and entrepreneurs whilst encouraging the systematic exchange of market intelligence and commercial knowledge.
The strategic partnership encompasses several key objectives. These include facilitating business delegation visits and fostering direct engagement between companies, enabling them to identify potential partners and expand into new markets. The cooperation will also explore joint initiatives in business development and innovation, creating collaborative opportunities that leverage the distinctive strengths of each region.
Dr. Al Nuaimi expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that partnership with Ann Arbor SPARK would provide Ras Al Khaimah’s business community with access to one of the United States’ most accomplished innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems. He emphasised that building international partnerships connecting local businesses with emerging technologies, investment opportunities and specialist expertise remains integral to supporting business growth and international expansion.
Paul Krutko, President and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK, highlighted his region’s commitment to global engagement, observing that Ann Arbor’s innovation economy has consistently maintained international reach through its technological advancement and talent attraction. He characterised the relationship with Ras Al Khaimah as strengthening those essential international connections and creating fresh opportunities for regional companies to pursue global growth and collaboration.
This economic accord builds purposefully upon the Memorandum of Understanding that Ras Al Khaimah established with Michigan in February 2025, following Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s visit to the emirate. That earlier agreement sought to strengthen exchange and cooperation across multiple sectors of shared interest.
The Letter of Intent reinforces Ras Al Khaimah Chamber’s strategic commitment to expanding its international network and translating institutional partnerships into practical, results-oriented initiatives that contribute meaningfully to economic diversification, sustained business growth and the competitive positioning of the emirate within the global marketplace.
