Abu Dhabi Chamber Forges Strategic Partnership with Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Excellence
A landmark collaboration between Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology will unlock advanced manufacturing expertise and innovation capabilities for the Emirate's business community.
Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has entered into a significant partnership with Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (Fraunhofer IPK), establishing a comprehensive framework for industrial capability advancement and applied research collaboration.
The Memorandum of Understanding, signed by Ali Mohamed Al Marzooqi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Chamber, and Professor Dr.-Ing. Holger Kohl, Acting Director of Fraunhofer IPK, represents a strategic commitment to bridging Abu Dhabi’s business community with world-class research and development expertise.
This partnership reflects Abu Dhabi Chamber’s broader vision to strengthen international economic ties and position the Emirate as a leading global hub for business, manufacturing and innovation. Through this collaboration, local manufacturers, companies and small and medium-sized enterprises will gain enhanced access to cutting-edge industrial knowledge, advanced technologies and practical expertise that drive competitive advantage.
The agreement establishes a structured framework encompassing advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0, industrial artificial intelligence, automation, sustainable production and circular economy principles. Both institutions will collaborate to align Fraunhofer’s internationally recognised research capabilities with the practical industrial requirements of Abu Dhabi’s business sector.
Al Marzooqi emphasised the significance of the partnership, noting that Germany’s distinguished expertise in manufacturing and applied research represents substantial value for Abu Dhabi’s industrial development trajectory. The collaboration will facilitate technology adoption, strengthen supplier networks and enhance local value chain resilience whilst accelerating industrial innovation across the Emirate.
Concrete collaborative activities include specialised workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions conducted by Fraunhofer experts, capacity-building programmes integrated into Abu Dhabi Chamber’s skills development initiatives, and exchange visits to Fraunhofer facilities in Berlin. These initiatives will provide participating companies with direct exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies and international best practices.
The partnership also facilitates targeted business-to-business engagements, connecting Abu Dhabi enterprises with relevant organisations within Germany’s broader Fraunhofer network, ensuring alignment with participating companies’ specific technological and innovation requirements.
