Al Qasimia University Celebrates Excellence in Islamic Economics Research

Distinguished scholars from across the Arab world have been honoured for their contributions to advancing Islamic economics through rigorous academic inquiry and innovative financial frameworks.

Al Qasimia University has celebrated the exceptional achievements of six distinguished researchers through its prestigious Islamic Economics Research Award, recognising their profound contributions to the field of Islamic finance and economics. The honouring ceremony, held under the distinguished patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, took place at the university’s theatre and brought together leading academics, administrators and students.

The Sharjah Centre for Islamic Economics, operating within Al Qasimia University, organised the ceremony to acknowledge research of exceptional calibre across three specialised categories. Jamal Salim Al Turaifi, President of Al Qasimia University, and Prof. Dr Awad Al Khalaf, Chancellor of the institution, presented the awards to the accomplished winners, whose work represents the highest standards of scholarly excellence.

Prof. Dr Al Khalaf emphasised the transformative significance of His Highness’ patronage, noting that such distinguished support elevates the award’s standing amongst the international research community and inspires scholars to pursue studies of extraordinary quality. He articulated the university’s commitment to transcending traditional pedagogy by actively generating knowledge, developing research capabilities and connecting scholarly endeavour to the contemporary challenges and requirements of communities across the Islamic world.

The award functions as a vital academic platform, fostering collaboration between the university, researchers and financial institutions whilst nurturing the development of a robust Islamic economics ecosystem. Prof. Dr Al Khalaf highlighted how the strong participation in the award reflects the vitality of research within this field and aligns harmoniously with the United Arab Emirates’ strategic emphasis on cultivating the legislative and institutional frameworks essential for Islamic finance to flourish on the global stage.

The Islamic jurisprudence category recognised Professor Dr Murad Rayeq Rashid Awda from Jordan for his analytical examination of justice in wealth distribution through Islamic financing mechanisms, and Dr Mohamed Shafie Miftah Bouchieh from Egypt for his jurisprudential exploration of financial technology’s role in developing the Islamic economy.

Within the Islamic economics category, Dr Abdel Karim Ahmed Qandouz from Algeria received recognition for developing a quantitative model measuring objectives-based compliance within Islamic financial systems, whilst Dr Rima Misbah Al Qaryouti from Jordan was honoured for her innovative conceptualisation of future Islamic banking through crowdfunding mechanisms underpinned by digital Waqf technology and artificial intelligence.

The law category awards were presented to Dr Ibrahim bin Mudhkir bin Saleh Al Otaibi from Saudi Arabia for his examination of investor protection within Sukuk instruments, and Dr Jamal Sayed Khalifa Mohamed from Egypt for his comprehensive jurisprudential and objectives-based study of fraudulent bankruptcy within Islamic financial institutions.
