Burjeel Holdings Consolidates Day Surgery Operations Ahead of Regional Expansion

The healthcare provider has unified its four existing day surgery centres across the UAE and announced plans for six additional facilities in the Emirates and Saudi Arabia as part of a broader growth strategy.

Burjeel Holdings has established a dedicated business vertical to oversee its day surgery operations, bringing together four existing centres across the United Arab Emirates under a unified management structure. This consolidation marks a significant step as the Group positions itself for the next phase of expansion in ambulatory and same-day care.

The four centres currently operating in the UAE are located in Al Reem Island, Shahama, Al Dhafra, and Al Dhahir in Al Ain. Under the new arrangement, these facilities will operate with common clinical and operational oversight, integrated financial management, and shared accountability for quality, patient experience, growth and financial performance.

The restructuring reflects Burjeel’s strategic vision for specialised healthcare delivery. By consolidating day surgery operations, the Group can streamline procedures that do not require overnight stays, thereby freeing theatre capacity and bed space at larger hospitals for more complex tertiary and quaternary care.

Looking ahead, Burjeel’s mid-term expansion plan encompasses four additional day surgery centres in the UAE and two in Saudi Arabia. This growth initiative forms part of a broader 18-asset development programme spanning multiple healthcare segments across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf Cooperation Council region.

The new dedicated platform provides a repeatable operating model designed for future growth, whether through greenfield development or strategic partnerships. Each new facility can operate within a common framework for clinical quality, financial management and performance measurement whilst adapting to local demand and speciality requirements.

In Saudi Arabia, each planned Burjeel One day surgery centre requires approximately AED140 million in capital expenditure and is projected to generate annual revenue exceeding AED200 million at maturity, with EBITDA margins in the mid-20s range.

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Burjeel Holdings, commented: “Day surgery is not simply an extension of the traditional hospital model. It has its own operating dynamics, capital requirements, and growth potential. Our existing centres have given us a strong foundation in the UAE, and bringing them together as one business gives us the structure and accountability to scale the model further.”
