Crown Prince Hamdan reviews progress on Dubai Loop underground transport project with The Boring Company

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, has convened with Steve Davis, President of The Boring Company, to review the advancement of Dubai’s cutting-edge underground transport initiative.
The meeting, held at His Highness’s Dubai office on 29th September, brought together key stakeholders in the project, including Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications; Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority; and senior executives from The Boring Company, Jared Birchall and John Hering.
The Dubai Loop project represents a transformative approach to urban mobility, harnessing advanced tunnelling technologies to create an underground passenger transport system powered by electric vehicles. The initiative addresses the complex transportation challenges of high-density urban environments whilst exemplifying Dubai’s commitment to innovative, sustainable solutions.
Since the project agreement was formalised in February, substantial progress has been achieved across multiple technical and engineering workstreams operating simultaneously. Notable milestones include the assembly of the tunnel boring machine and the manufacturing of concrete tunnel-lining segments, reflecting the project’s acceleration towards realisation.
The Dubai Loop system is engineered to deliver flexible urban connectivity, providing crucial first and last-mile solutions that enhance linkages between major destinations and essential areas throughout the emirate. By integrating advanced technology with environmental consciousness, the project exemplifies Dubai’s broader strategic vision for sustainable transportation infrastructure.
This underground network forms a cornerstone of Dubai’s future mobility ecosystem, positioning the emirate as a pioneer in next-generation urban transport systems that balance efficiency, sustainability and quality of life for residents and visitors.
