Deepening Horizons: UAE and Benin Chart Course for Strengthened Partnership

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the President of Benin explore avenues for enhanced cooperation across renewable energy, agriculture and infrastructure, reaffirming the UAE's commitment to sustainable development across Africa.

The corridors of power in Abu Dhabi witnessed a moment of diplomatic significance as two nations considered the architecture of their future together. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received His Excellency Romuald Wadagni, President of the Republic of Benin, in discussions that reflected the UAE’s broadening engagement with the African continent and its commitment to forging partnerships rooted in mutual prosperity.

The meeting, held on 25th October, centred on expanding bilateral relations across sectors of genuine mutual benefit. Renewable energy emerged as a priority, alongside agriculture, infrastructure development and food security, areas where the UAE’s expertise and investment capacity align with the development aspirations of Benin. His Highness expressed his hope that President Wadagni’s working visit would catalyse deeper cooperation between the two countries, supporting their shared development priorities and the welfare of both peoples.

Beyond the economic dimensions, the discussions addressed the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, to be hosted in the UAE in December. This gathering carries significance for the international community’s efforts to tackle water challenges, refine management practices and safeguard the sustainability of water resources, matters of pressing importance to nations across Africa and beyond.

His Highness reaffirmed the UAE’s broader vision of strengthening development cooperation with African nations, including Benin, through partnerships designed for enduring growth and shared prosperity. The meeting reflected the UAE’s conviction that sustainable development requires not merely transaction, but genuine partnership built on understanding and aligned interests.

The deliberations were attended by senior officials from both delegations, including H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, alongside ministers and officials from both governments. The breadth of representation underscored the comprehensive nature of the engagement and its significance to both nations.
