Forty-nine high-achieving Emirati students have been enrolled in the Dubai Health Authority's esteemed study sponsorship initiative, which has now supported 618 students since its inception in 2016.
The Dubai Health Authority has welcomed forty-nine exceptional students to the eleventh cohort of its distinguished Tibb wa Uloom programme, a comprehensive study sponsorship initiative designed to cultivate Emirati talent across the health professions. The newly enrolled cohort, who recently formalised their participation through the signing of sponsorship contracts, represents the continued momentum of this transformative educational endeavour.
Since the programme’s establishment in 2016, a remarkable 618 students have been welcomed into its ranks, of whom 297 have successfully completed their studies and embarked upon professional careers in healthcare. This impressive trajectory underscores the Dubai Health Authority’s unwavering commitment to nurturing promising secondary school and university graduates who demonstrate the aspiration and capability to excel within the health specialities.
The composition of the programme reflects the health sector’s evolving landscape. Medicine has emerged as the predominant field of study, accounting for approximately sixty per cent of all enrolments, whilst nursing and allied health specialities, encompassing radiological sciences, pharmacy, physiotherapy, nutrition and complementary disciplines, constitute the remainder. Notably, women constitute a substantial eighty-four point eight per cent of the programme’s student body, underscoring the significant contribution of female professionals to the emirate’s healthcare advancement.
The programme’s scope has matured considerably over its operational tenure, with emerging specialities including public health now integrated into the curriculum following rigorous clinical capacity evaluation. This thoughtful evolution ensures that newly trained Emirati professionals possess expertise precisely aligned with the health sector’s contemporary requirements and forward-looking aspirations.
Asma Al Sharif, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Regulatory Sector at the Dubai Health Authority, emphasised that cultivating Emirati talent constitutes an indispensable foundation for the sustainable development of the emirate’s health infrastructure. She articulated that enabling students to construct robust academic and professional trajectories facilitates the emergence of qualified practitioners equipped to fulfil the sector’s current imperatives and future ambitions. The programme’s holistic approach, extending from comprehensive academic sponsorship through to professional transition preparation, exemplifies a far-sighted investment strategy recognising that today’s scholars shall become tomorrow’s healthcare leaders.
Dr Khawla Al Hajaj, Director of Medical Education and Research at the Dubai Health Authority, elaborated upon the integrated support framework that characterises the programme’s methodology. Students benefit from academic sponsorship complemented by structured training opportunities and professional development initiatives, collectively cultivating the knowledge and competencies requisite for seamless progression into professional healthcare roles upon completion of their studies.
