EDGE Group, UAE Ministry of Defence forge transformative defence partnership with Brazil

A strategic Letter of Intent signed in Abu Dhabi between EDGE Group, the UAE Ministry of Defence, the Brazilian Army and Brazil's defence industrial authority charts an ambitious course for deepened bilateral cooperation across military modernisation and technological innovation.

A significant milestone in United Arab Emirates and Brazilian defence relations was marked in Abu Dhabi with the signing of a Letter of Intent between EDGE Group, the UAE Ministry of Defence, the Brazilian Army, represented by the Brazilian Army General Staff, and Indústria de Material Bélico do Brasil. The accord represents a substantial deepening of strategic cooperation that encompasses military, operational, industrial, technological, commercial and governmental dimensions.

The agreement builds upon two cornerstone accords: the 2014 Brazil-UAE Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Defence and the 2019 Agreement on the Exchange and Mutual Protection of Classified Information and Materials. This latest initiative extends these foundational commitments by establishing a framework for identifying and implementing solutions tailored to the Brazilian Army’s modernisation objectives, particularly those aligned with its Force Transformation 40 process and the advancement of Brazil’s Defence Industrial Base.

Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EDGE Group, articulated the vision underlying this partnership: “Brazil is building sovereign defence capability, and EDGE is here to help build it. Bringing the UAE Ministry of Defence, the Brazilian Army and IMBEL together in Abu Dhabi turns that ambition into concrete programmes of work. EDGE will commit its portfolio, its engineers and its industrial presence in Brazil to modernising the Brazilian Army and to a defence industrial base that continues to serve Brazil long after these programmes are delivered.”

The partnership architecture represents a sophisticated alignment of complementary capabilities. The UAE Ministry of Defence contributes governmental authority and bilateral strategic direction; the Brazilian Army brings operational requirements and clearly defined modernisation priorities; IMBEL supplies sovereign Brazilian defence industrial expertise and manufacturing capacity; and EDGE contributes its comprehensive integrated portfolio, systems integration expertise and an expanding industrial footprint within Brazil.

This collaborative framework signals a commitment to advancing defence capabilities whilst simultaneously strengthening Brazil’s indigenous defence manufacturing and technological infrastructure, establishing a foundation for enduring partnership that extends well beyond the completion of individual programmes.
