EDGE strengthens Morocco's air defence capabilities with precision weapon systems

The Abu Dhabi-based defence technology company has signed a comprehensive contract with Morocco's Administration of National Defence to supply advanced guided-glide weapons and precision-guided munitions for integration across the Royal Moroccan Air Force's unmanned combat aerial vehicle fleet.

At the Marrakech Air Show 2026, EDGE has formalised a significant partnership with Morocco’s Administration of National Defence, the procurement authority serving the Royal Armed Forces. The contract encompasses the supply and integration of two advanced weapon systems across the Royal Moroccan Air Force’s fleet of unmanned combat aerial vehicles, representing a substantial commitment to strengthening the Kingdom’s air defence capabilities.

The DS-16 guided-glide weapon, weighing 23 kilograms, delivers precision strike capability at ranges extending to 15 kilometres. Complementing this system, the THUNDER P-31 precision-guided munition converts standard MK 81 general-purpose ordnance into a sophisticated guided platform, achieving ranges of up to 10 kilometres when deployed from unmanned platforms and 20 kilometres from high-altitude, high-speed aircraft. Both systems utilise GNSS-assisted inertial navigation augmented by optional semi-active laser seeker technology, representing a fusion of navigational precision and targeting sophistication.

Developed and manufactured entirely within the United Arab Emirates, these weapon systems exemplify the nation’s advanced defence technology capabilities. EDGE’s responsibilities extend beyond supply to encompass comprehensive integration across the RMAF’s UCAV fleet, including all requisite aircraft modifications and operational software development.

Saif Al Dahbashi, President of Missiles & Weapons at EDGE, articulated the partnership’s strategic dimension: “This contract is built around delivering the performance that the Royal Moroccan Air Force’s missions demand. We move at the speed our partners need, and every system we deliver is backed by assured supply and long-term sustainment. By putting mission-ready precision capabilities in the hands of the Royal Moroccan Air Force, we are establishing EDGE as a trusted partner to the Kingdom and laying the foundations for an enduring relationship.”

The agreement reflects EDGE’s strategic positioning within Africa, identified as a priority growth market. The company’s approach emphasises flexible commercial models calibrated to individual customer operational requirements, ensuring seamless integration with existing platforms and infrastructure.

This development forms part of EDGE’s broader engagement across the African continent, where the company is advancing defence modernisation initiatives, including substantial naval programmes and border security enhancements for key regional partners.
