EMSTEEL Reappointed as Co-Chair of Global Alliance for Industrial Decarbonisation

The UAE steel manufacturer has secured a second term leading IRENA-backed efforts to reduce industrial carbon emissions and advance sustainable practices across hard-to-abate sectors.
The United Arab Emirates has reinforced its position at the forefront of international industrial decarbonisation initiatives following the reappointment of EMSTEEL Group as Co-Chair of the Alliance for Industry Decarbonization (AFID) for a consecutive second term. The announcement, made during New York Climate Week 2026, underscores both the nation’s environmental leadership and the pivotal contribution of its major enterprises to global sustainability efforts.
EMSTEEL, one of the region’s most significant publicly traded steel and building materials manufacturers, first assumed the Co-Chair position in September 2024, succeeding Tata Steel in this prestigious international role. The alliance, under the stewardship of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), convenes industry leaders, technology innovators, energy providers and knowledge partners to develop and implement practical, scalable solutions for accelerating industrial decarbonisation across challenging sectors.
As Co-Chair, EMSTEEL shares leadership alongside BASF, the world’s largest chemical manufacturer, reflecting the collaborative nature of the global transition towards low-carbon industry. The group will continue championing dialogue on decarbonisation pathways whilst strengthening coordination across the interconnected spheres of industry, energy and finance.
Eng. Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, Group Chief Executive Officer of EMSTEEL, emphasised that the reappointment reflects international recognition of the organisation’s advancement in industrial decarbonisation. He highlighted that meaningful progress demands comprehensive alignment across policy frameworks, energy infrastructure, financial mechanisms, technology innovation and supporting systems.
EMSTEEL’s continued co-leadership aims to accelerate the deployment of practical solutions whilst supporting the UAE’s broader commitment to sustainable industrial transformation. The company’s long-term strategy encompasses achieving Net Zero by 2050 through expanding clean electricity utilisation, enhancing energy and resource efficiency, developing green hydrogen solutions, implementing carbon capture technologies, embedding circular economy principles and producing lower-carbon building materials.
This appointment positions EMSTEEL at the centre of mobilising investment, advancing infrastructure and securing clean energy supply essential for transforming global industry towards genuinely sustainable practices.
