The Ruler of Fujairah receives the Chairman of Russian energy company Novatek to explore development opportunities in the emirate's strategic oil industry zone and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Within the gracious setting of Al Rumailah Palace, H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, welcomed Leonid Mikhelson, Chairman of Novatek, and his delegation on 1st November. The meeting reflected the emirate’s commitment to deepening international partnerships in the energy sector, a cornerstone of Fujairah’s economic vision.
The discussion centred on development projects within the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, with both parties exploring pathways to expand the zone’s capabilities and operational efficiency. Beyond immediate infrastructure considerations, the two sides examined future plans designed to enhance investment potential and ensure the zone remains responsive to the evolving demands of the global energy market. These conversations underscored a shared commitment to advancing not merely the energy sector itself, but the web of related industries and services that sustain it.
H.H. Sheikh Hamad emphasised the strategic importance of strengthening cooperation with Russia across energy and allied industries. This approach aligns with the UAE’s broader philosophy of building enduring partnerships, capitalising on economic opportunity, and facilitating the exchange of expertise across borders. Such collaboration serves multiple dimensions: it reinforces Fujairah’s established position as a strategic hub for the trade and storage of petroleum products, contributes to sustainable development, and advances the shared interests that bind nations together in an interconnected global economy.
The delegation’s visit reflects a pattern of engagement between Fujairah’s leadership and international energy stakeholders. As the emirate has emphasised its strategic role in global energy markets at international forums, such conversations with major energy companies become instrumental in translating strategic vision into tangible investment and operational growth.
The meeting was attended by Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of the Fujairah Emiri Court; Mohammed Al Afkham, Director General of Fujairah Municipality; and Salem Al Afkham, Director of the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone.
What it means for Abu Dhabi
Fujairah’s expanded cooperation with Russian energy stakeholders strengthens the UAE’s position in global energy markets and demonstrates the federation’s capacity to attract international investment in strategic sectors. The development of the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone remains integral to the UAE’s energy infrastructure and trade capabilities, supporting the nation’s economic resilience and growth objectives.
Such bilateral engagement reinforces the UAE’s diplomatic approach of building diverse, mutually beneficial relationships across geographies. Fujairah’s role as a trade and storage hub for petroleum products positions the entire federation advantageously within global supply chains, contributing to national prosperity and economic stability while creating opportunities for knowledge exchange and sectoral advancement.
