Global Council for Tolerance and Peace strengthens ties with Dominican Parliament

The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace explores expanded cooperation with the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic, advancing parliamentary initiatives to promote dialogue and international understanding.

The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace has advanced its mission of fostering international dialogue through discussions with the Dominican Republic’s Chamber of Deputies, signalling fresh opportunities for institutional partnership across the Americas.

Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, led a delegation to Santo Domingo, where he met with Alfredo Pacheco, President of the Chamber of Deputies. The visit explored avenues for strengthening cooperation between the two institutions and developing parliamentary initiatives that champion tolerance, dialogue and peace.

Mr Pacheco received the GCTP delegation warmly and acknowledged the Council’s considerable efforts in promoting a culture of tolerance and peace on the global stage. He specifically recognised the Council’s work in South America and the Caribbean, praising its initiatives and programmes that foster dialogue, coexistence and international collaboration.

Central to the discussions was the prospect of formalising institutional cooperation. The two sides welcomed moves towards signing a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the Chamber of Deputies, the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace and its affiliated International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace.

Mr Pacheco underscored the critical importance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and coordinating efforts to combat hate speech and extremism whilst supporting the advancement of security, stability and peace across the region and beyond.

Mr Al Jarwan expressed the Council’s genuine commitment to expanding its partnerships with parliamentary institutions throughout the Dominican Republic and neighbouring countries. He emphasised the value of launching joint initiatives that advance tolerance, peace and sustainable development—objectives that align with broader regional aspirations.

Both leaders stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in their coordination efforts and completing the necessary procedures for the cooperation agreement. Their commitment encompasses strengthening institutional partnership, exchanging expertise and organising collaborative programmes and events that benefit participating nations.
