UAE Condemns Al-Aqsa Mosque Incursion, Calls for Restraint
The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong statement opposing the storming of Al-Aqsa Courtyard, urging the Israeli government to prevent further escalation and uphold the sanctity of holy sites.
The United Arab Emirates has issued a forthright condemnation of the storming of Al-Aqsa Courtyard by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and accompanying settlers, carried out under the protection of Israeli police forces. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterised the incident as a provocative escalation and an unacceptable manifestation of extremism.
In its formal statement, the MoFA called upon the Israeli government to assume full responsibility for the actions, condemn the hostile conduct, and ensure that all parties involved—particularly government ministers and officials—are held to account.
The UAE’s position reflects broader concerns about patterns of conduct that extend beyond a single incident. The Emirates emphasised that ongoing attacks, coupled with incitement to hatred and violence, constitute a systematic extremist campaign. Such actions, the statement noted, do not solely target the Palestinian people, but pose a threat to regional stability and social harmony whilst creating risk of further deterioration.
Central to the UAE’s response is a reaffirmation of fundamental principles regarding Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Emirates stressed the paramount importance of respecting the historical and legal status quo of the sacred site, protecting all places of worship, and recognising the custodial responsibilities of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in administering the endowments and overseeing the institutional management of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The statement represents the Emirates’ continued commitment to principles of regional peace, interfaith respect, and adherence to international law governing the treatment of holy sites. It underscores the UAE’s advocacy for measured, lawful conduct that upholds the dignity of all religious traditions and communities across the Middle East.
