Gulf tourism surges to 75.7 million visitors and $131.9 billion in revenues

The GCC tourism sector demonstrates robust growth in 2025, with visitor numbers and revenues expanding significantly as digital transformation reshapes the visitor experience across the region
The Gulf Cooperation Council has solidified its position as a global tourism destination of considerable magnitude, with 2025 figures revealing the region’s sustained momentum and evolving sophistication. Tourism revenues reached US$131.9 billion, marking a year-on-year expansion of 9.7 percent, while visitor arrivals totalled 75.7 million, an increase of 4.9 percent compared with the preceding year, according to data released by GCC-STAT, the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf.
The landscape of intra-GCC travel flourished particularly, with 20.1 million tourists journeying between member nations, representing growth of 3.6 percent. This internal dynamism reflects the region’s success in cultivating interconnected experiences and encouraging visitors to explore multiple destinations across the Gulf. The accommodation sector expanded proportionally, with hotel establishments reaching 12,400 properties, an increase of 4.8 percent that underscores the tourism infrastructure’s capacity to meet rising demand and the widening diversity of hospitality options available to guests.
Tourism’s significance extends well beyond these headline figures. The sector functions as a vital mechanism for economic diversification in the Gulf nations, interweaving itself through numerous industries: aviation and transport, hospitality and retail, entertainment and allied services. This interconnectedness stimulates sustained investment, generates employment opportunities and strengthens the contribution of non-oil economic activities to the region’s prosperity.
Digital Innovation as Catalyst
The transformation of Gulf tourism has become inseparable from technological advancement. The latest analysis reveals that GCC countries now occupy prominent positions across key digital indices. In the Emerging Technology Adoption Index for 2025, member nations scored between 34 and 99 points, with three Gulf countries ranking within the global top 20. The Mobile App Development Index similarly demonstrated capability, with scores ranging from 60 to 77 points.
Government services have undergone particularly robust digital enhancement. The Online Government Services Index recorded scores between 56 and 99 points, with three GCC nations placing among the world’s leading 25 countries. This digital sophistication proves instrumental in streamlining travel procedures and accommodation arrangements, thereby elevating the efficiency and accessibility of visitor services.
Digital transformation has emerged as the foundational pillar through which Gulf tourism strengthens its global competitiveness. The deployment of data analytics and artificial intelligence enables tourism operators to discern and respond to visitor preferences with increasing precision. Looking forward, the regional emphasis has shifted toward reinforcing digital integration across GCC nations through shared platforms that seamlessly connect booking systems and transport services, thereby creating a more unified tourism experience and encouraging further growth in intra-GCC travel.
