The IJF has commended Abu Dhabi's readiness and secure environment as the emirate prepares to host the penultimate event of the World Judo Tour, drawing more than 60 national teams in pursuit of Olympic qualification points.

Abu Dhabi stands recognised by the International Judo Federation as a distinguished venue for elite sporting competition, with IJF President Marius Vizer extending particular praise for the emirate’s meticulous preparations to host the 2026 Grand Slam. The event represents the penultimate fixture of the World Judo Tour and will draw national teams from across the globe as athletes seek qualification points towards the Olympic Games.

The partnership between the IJF and the UAE Judo Federation, under the stewardship of Mohamed bin Thaaloob Al Derei, reflects years of collaborative excellence and mutual commitment to the sport. Vizer acknowledged the UAE federation’s rigorous preparations, emphasising Abu Dhabi’s proven capacity to deliver major international competitions to the highest standards.

The accolade builds upon Abu Dhabi’s recent legacy as host of the 2024 World Judo Championships, an event that welcomed participants from more than 100 countries and demonstrated the emirate’s capability to manage large-scale international sporting occasions. The judoka community has consistently found in Abu Dhabi an environment of safety, professionalism and genuine welcome.

The timing of the 2026 Grand Slam aligns with World Judo Day on 28th October, a date celebrated globally under the theme of Belonging. The occasion underscores judo’s capacity to unite athletes and communities through shared values of discipline, respect and excellence, with more than 60 national teams gathering to advance their Olympic aspirations.
