Light Tells the Moon’s Story at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
As the new lunar month dawns, we are invited to witness an extraordinary celebration of light and celestial wonder at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The Centre presents a captivating visual experience that transforms the iconic architecture into a canvas for storytelling through illumination, honouring the profound significance of the Hijri calendar in Emirati heritage and Islamic tradition.
This immersive spectacle unfolds across the revered spaces of the mosque and extends to Wahat Al Karama, where carefully orchestrated light choreography traces the lunar journey across the night sky. The five minute exhibition captures each phase of the moon’s cycle, bringing to life the celestial precision upon which the Hijri Calendar, issued by the Centre, has been meticulously calculated and honoured for generations.
The experience represents a remarkable fusion of cultural reverence and contemporary artistry. Rather than merely observing the moon from a distance, guests find themselves enveloped within a luminous narrative that celebrates the mathematical elegance and spiritual importance of lunar timekeeping in Emirati culture. We are welcomed to experience this enchanting display on 11 October, with performances commencing at 8:00 pm, 8:30 pm, 9:00 pm, 9:30 pm and 10:00 pm. Each showing lasts precisely five minutes, though the resonance of witnessing the moon’s eternal narrative told through light lingers far longer.
