UAE Advance to Gulf Cup Semi-Finals with Commanding Group Stage Performance

The national team secured top spot in Group B following a spirited draw with Qatar, earning a semi-final meeting with Oman in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup

The UAE national football team has secured their progression to the semi-finals of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup with an assured display against Qatar at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah on Wednesday, 30th September, 2026.

A 1-1 draw proved sufficient for the Emiratis to claim top position in Group B with seven points accumulated, progressing ahead of Qatar on goal difference. The result sets the stage for an engaging semi-final encounter with Oman, who finished as runners-up in Group A.

Qatar, finishing second in the group, will face Group A winners Saudi Arabia in the other semi-final fixture.

The match developed with Qatar establishing an early advantage when Almoez Ali opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. However, the UAE demonstrated composure and attacking intent, with Ali Saleh securing an equaliser just four minutes into the first-half stoppage time, a critical moment that ultimately determined the group’s final standings.

Both semi-final encounters are scheduled for Saturday. The UAE will contest their match against Oman at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City at 22:30 UAE time, whilst the Saudi Arabia versus Qatar fixture takes place at King Abdullah Sports City at 19:55 UAE time.

The campaign represents a significant milestone in the tournament’s progression, with the UAE’s commanding performance in the group stage establishing them as formidable contenders for the championship.
