UAE and Zambia Strengthen Diplomatic Ties with Focus on Economic Growth

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, during an official working visit to the United Arab Emirates. The meeting underscored the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two nations and their commitment to fostering meaningful collaboration across multiple sectors.
During their discussion, His Highness conveyed warm wishes to President Hichilema as he embarks upon his presidential term, expressing confidence in his endeavours to advance the aspirations and development of the Zambian people. Both leaders acknowledged the considerable progress achieved within their longstanding relationship, which has flourished across more than five decades.
The two presidents conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral ties, with particular emphasis on economic cooperation, renewable energy initiatives and infrastructure development. This strategic focus reflects both nations’ commitment to sustainable growth and their shared priorities for economic diversification. The leaders explored expanded opportunities for collaboration that would serve mutual interests and support the development objectives of both countries.
A significant aspect of the discussions centred on ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and Zambia. Both sides expressed optimism regarding the potential accord, viewing it as a transformative framework that would substantially enhance economic relations whilst facilitating increased cooperation across governmental and commercial sectors.
The two nations reaffirmed their dedication to deepening bilateral partnerships, building strategically upon achievements already realised in areas of common benefit. They emphasised the importance of establishing robust development partnerships that would facilitate economic advancement and contribute to shared prosperity across both nations.
The meeting was attended by senior UAE leadership, including H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region; Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council; and numerous other senior officials, ministers and eminent figures from across the Emirates.
