UAE Chess Federation Vice President Elected to FIDE Leadership

Fouad Darwish has been elected Vice President of the International Chess Federation, marking a significant achievement for Emirati chess on the global stage.

Fouad Darwish, Vice President of the UAE Chess Federation, has been elected to the position of Vice President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), joining two fellow vice presidents chosen during the organisation’s General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The election took place during proceedings held alongside the World Chess Olympiad.

Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Al Khoori, President of the UAE Chess Federation, extended his congratulations to Darwish on securing the prestigious appointment. He characterised the election as a notable milestone for chess within the Emirates, emphasising how the outcome reflected the esteem in which Emirati sports professionals are held internationally.

In his remarks, Dr. Al Khoori underscored that Emirati professionals possess the requisite experience and expertise to occupy senior roles within international sporting organisations, positioning them to make meaningful contributions towards the advancement of sport globally.

Darwish acknowledged the UAE Chess Federation’s instrumental role in his candidacy, expressing gratitude for the organisation’s nomination and support throughout the election process. He voiced optimism that his appointment to the FIDE leadership would afford him enhanced opportunities to champion the continued development of chess within the United Arab Emirates.
