UAE Foreign Minister Advances Bilateral Relations with Tonga at UN General Assembly

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan convened with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation across multiple sectors.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in substantive discussions with Lord Fatafehi Fakafānua, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The bilateral meeting provided a valuable opportunity to explore pathways for strengthening cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Tonga across a diverse range of sectors. Both parties identified the economy, trade, tourism, education and development as key areas where mutual interests could be advanced collaboratively.

The delegation representing the UAE demonstrated the leadership’s commitment to deepening Pacific relations. The meeting was attended by Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment; and Omar Shehadeh, Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Caribbean and Pacific States.

During their exchange, the two delegations examined issues of shared concern and deliberated upon topics forming part of the broader United Nations General Assembly agenda, reflecting the wide-ranging scope of their diplomatic engagement.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s strategic commitment to developing its relationship with Tonga, emphasising the importance of enhanced bilateral cooperation as a vehicle for supporting both nations’ overarching aspirations for comprehensive development and sustainable economic prosperity.
