UAE forges expanded healthcare partnerships with leading American institutions
Minister of Health and Prevention Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh has led a comprehensive delegation to premier medical centres across Boston and New York, establishing strategic collaborations in genomic medicine, digital health and specialised care.
The United Arab Emirates has taken significant steps to strengthen its healthcare capabilities through expanded partnerships with leading American medical institutions. Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of Health and Prevention, led a UAE delegation to Boston and New York during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly to explore strategic collaborations in advanced medical fields.
The delegation, which included representatives from Emirates Health Services and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, focused on priority areas including genomic medicine, artificial intelligence, digital health, rare disease treatment and specialised care, alongside professional development initiatives.
Boston Collaborations
In Boston, discussions with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute centred on establishing early cancer detection pathways utilising genomic testing, encompassing risk assessment, genetic counselling and treatment referral systems. The partnership will include physician training and enhanced patient care coordination.
At Boston Children’s Hospital, the delegation explored expanded cooperation in diagnosing and treating rare and complex paediatric diseases, with plans to develop centres of excellence and implement visiting-physician programmes. Discussions encompassed care pathways for newborns with positive genetic screening results, from confirmatory testing through specialist assessment to treatment, alongside continued collaboration in artificial intelligence and scientific research.
Mass General Brigham featured conversations regarding digital health, artificial intelligence, research innovation and training programmes, leveraging the institution’s expertise in integrated care and specialisation in cardiology, neuroscience and cancer treatment. The delegation also engaged with Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health regarding public health system development, sustainable healthcare financing and emergency preparedness strengthening.
New York Initiatives
In New York, NewYork-Presbyterian discussed physician exchange opportunities, training initiatives and research collaboration, with particular emphasis on paediatric cardiology, organ transplantation and gene therapy expertise.
The Mount Sinai Hospital briefed the delegation on comprehensive oncology services and proton therapy facilities whilst exploring research cooperation and centres of excellence development, particularly in immunotherapy.
Minister Al Sayegh directed officials to develop a healthcare leadership training programme in cooperation with Johns Hopkins University to strengthen professional investment and cultivate future healthcare leaders. The delegation also engaged with representatives from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Cedars-Sinai, Penn Medicine and Johnson & Johnson.
Emirates Health Services held separate discussions with Northwell Health regarding neuroscience, cardiology, neurological medical devices, digital health and artificial intelligence cooperation, whilst at NYU Langone Health, the delegation toured facilities and centres of excellence, discussing continuation of visiting-physician programmes.
Al Sayegh emphasised that the United States represents a vital partner for the UAE in healthcare, research and innovation, with anticipated cooperation supporting joint research and training programmes that translate medical scientific advances into practical applications in prevention, early detection and patient care.
Emirates Health Services will pursue follow-up engagement with visited institutions to develop comprehensive action plans, establishing priorities, responsibilities and implementation phases for identified collaborative opportunities.
