Burjeel Cancer Institute Celebrates Childhood Cancer Awareness with Family-Centred Initiative

The Institute marks the awareness month with a community gathering honouring the vital role of familial and emotional support in children's cancer care

Burjeel Cancer Institute at Burjeel Medical City has marked Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a meaningful community event that united young patients currently undergoing treatment, survivors of childhood cancer, and their families in a celebration of resilience and togetherness.

Organised under the theme “Hope Begins with Family” and aligned with the Year of Family initiative, the gathering underscored the profound significance of familial bonds, psychological support, and social care as essential complements to medical treatment throughout a child’s cancer journey.

The event brought together children and their families for a programme of interactive, creative, and entertaining activities designed to foster moments of joy and meaningful connection beyond the clinical environment. Medical and administrative personnel from Burjeel Cancer Institute participated actively, enabling patients, families, and caregivers to interact in a supportive, relaxed setting that transcended traditional healthcare boundaries.

Among those sharing their experiences was Saif, an Emirati child who received a diagnosis of a kidney tumour. His journey illustrated the critical importance of precise diagnosis, tailored treatment protocols, and unwavering support for children and their families throughout each phase of their care pathway.

The occasion provided young patients and their loved ones with invaluable opportunities to spend quality time together whilst engaging in recreational and interactive pursuits. This emphasis on emotional wellbeing and familial connection during treatment underscores the Institute’s comprehensive approach to paediatric oncology, recognising that psychological and social resilience work alongside clinical interventions to support optimal outcomes.
