UAE Jiu-Jitsu Team Extends Medal Haul to Eight at Asian Games

The national jiu-jitsu squad secured two gold medals and one bronze at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games, reinforcing the Emirates' standing in martial arts excellence.
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team continued its impressive performance at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026, adding three medals to its tally on Friday. The latest successes bring the nation’s overall medal count to eight: five golds, two silvers and one bronze.
Mahdi Al Awlaqi claimed gold in the men’s 77kg category, securing victory against Jordan’s Mahmoud Jabr in a decisive final contest. In the men’s 94kg division, Amaar Al Hosani earned a bronze medal, showcasing the depth of Emirati talent across multiple weight classes.
In a particularly notable achievement, Asma Al Hosani successfully defended her title in the women’s 52kg category, defeating Korea’s Eonju Im to claim her second consecutive Asian Games gold. Al Hosani’s triumph builds upon her historic accomplishment at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, where she became the first Emirati woman to capture an Asian Games gold medal in martial arts—a milestone that underscored the remarkable rise of women’s participation in the sport across the Emirates.
The jiu-jitsu competition schedule continues on Saturday, with further opportunities for the UAE team to enhance its medal standing. These performances reflect the sustained investment and development programmes that have elevated Emirati athletes to competitive prominence within the Asian martial arts landscape.
