UAE Naval Forces and National Centre of Meteorology Forge Strategic Partnership

Senior military and meteorological leadership convene to explore enhanced cooperation on forecasting, early-warning systems and climate resilience

Staff Major General Humaid Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Commander of the UAE Naval Forces, has engaged in substantive discussions with Dr. Abdulla Ahmed Al Mandous, Director-General of the National Centre of Meteorology and President of the World Meteorological Organisation, to advance bilateral cooperation between the two institutions.

The meeting at NCM headquarters brought together senior officers and officials to examine opportunities for deepened strategic partnership. The dialogue encompassed several domains of mutual interest, particularly the development of forecasting and early-warning systems, systematic exchange of expertise and climate intelligence, and collaborative capacity-building initiatives.

Central to the discussions was the imperative of fortifying the UAE’s proactive response mechanisms whilst safeguarding national interests. Both parties recognised the necessity of enhancing personnel readiness across the military and meteorological sectors to respond effectively to diverse weather phenomena and climatic shifts.

The leadership emphasised the value of strengthened institutional cooperation throughout the UAE’s national apparatus. By fostering enhanced coordination and integrating operational efforts across agencies, the two bodies aim to elevate performance standards and reinforce national preparedness infrastructure.

The visit encompassed a comprehensive tour of NCM’s operational facilities, affording the military delegation insight into the Centre’s seismic monitoring apparatus, observation networks and monitoring stations distributed throughout the Emirates. Participants examined the sophisticated systems deployed for continuous surveillance and analysis of seismic activity across the region.

The delegation further visited the WMO Regional Training Centre and inspected the NCM’s advanced high-performance computing infrastructure, which underpins the Centre’s meteorological and seismic analysis capabilities.
