UAE Tourism Sector Flourishes with Landmark Destinations Set for 2026

Major investment across multiple emirates is reshaping the nation's tourism landscape, introducing world-class venues and immersive experiences that reflect Emirati culture and commitment to sustainable growth.

The United Arab Emirates is experiencing significant expansion in its tourism and leisure sectors, with substantial investments driving the development of distinctive destinations across the country. This strategic momentum throughout 2026 demonstrates the nation’s commitment to diversifying its tourism offerings whilst maintaining emphasis on cultural authenticity, environmental responsibility and economic advancement.

Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island has been selected to host Sphere Abu Dhabi, a groundbreaking entertainment venue representing the first location for this concept outside the United States. With a construction investment of US$1.7 billion, the facility will accommodate up to 20,000 visitors and deliver immersive experiences spanning concerts, sporting events, conferences and cultural presentations showcasing Emirati heritage and supporting regional talent. The venue’s strategic positioning between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi reinforces the island’s status as a premier leisure destination.

Complementing this development, Miral has committed more than AED12 billion to Yas Island over the coming five years, encompassing expansion of existing theme parks and the introduction of innovative immersive attractions aligned with Abu Dhabi Tourism Strategy 2030.

Dubai’s tourism ambitions are similarly ambitious. The Al Layan Oasis project, approved in February, will introduce a one-million-square-metre environmental and recreational destination featuring a lake exceeding 250,000 square metres. The development incorporates walking and cycling pathways, family facilities, an outdoor cinema, camping accommodations for 100 caravans and retail services within a conscientiously designed natural environment. Additionally, Umm Suqeim Beach is undergoing comprehensive redevelopment through a AED500 million master plan, creating an integrated all-day destination reflecting Emirati identity and anticipated to serve approximately six million visitors annually. The project incorporates a 38-metre observation tower, enhanced facilities and advanced smart technologies.

Sharjah’s coastal developments are equally noteworthy. The Abu Al Keizan Marine Village in Khorfakkan, a seven-million-square-foot development, fuses traditional coastal village concepts with Islamic architectural elements. Comprising 201 plots designated for 285 buildings, the project maintains environmental sensitivity whilst introducing residential, commercial and hospitality facilities alongside a purpose-built natural harbour. The nearby Khorfakkan Resort, valued at AED700 million, contributes 573 residential units, extensive retail and recreational facilities and a private beach component.

In Ras Al Khaimah, development of Al Rams Waterfront and Al Rams Boulevard progresses as integrated destination planning initiatives. The waterfront component stretches 2,000 metres, offering dedicated pathways for walking, cycling and jogging alongside public facilities, green spaces and venues for community engagement.

These interconnected projects underscore the UAE’s strategic positioning within global tourism markets, combining world-class infrastructure with authentic cultural expression and environmental stewardship to attract international visitors whilst generating sustainable economic returns.
