Women’s Triathlon Returns to Dubai with Races for Every Ability
The World Triathlon Women's Cup comes to Al Mamzar Beach Park in December, offering elite competition and entry-level racing in a celebration of women's sporting achievement.
Al Mamzar Beach Park will welcome swimmers, cyclists and runners of every calibre when the World Triathlon Women’s Cup returns to Dubai on 6 December. The second such event to be held anywhere in the world, it stands as the only competition of its kind dedicated entirely to women, uniting elite international athletes with first-time participants under the same sky on the same day.
Organised by Dubai Sports Council in partnership with World Triathlon and the UAE Triathlon Federation, the event centres on a simple but powerful premise: that women of all experience levels deserve the opportunity to race together, to challenge themselves and to witness excellence at close hand. Registration is now open for women aged 18 and over, whether competing individually or as part of a relay team of up to three members.
Two race distances allow participants to choose their own measure of challenge. The Super Sprint invites newcomers to the sport with a 400-metre swim, 10-kilometre cycle and 2.5-kilometre run, designed to make a first triathlon achievable for those testing their limits for the first time. The Sprint offers greater ambition: a 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre cycle and 5-kilometre run for those seeking a more demanding experience.
The relay format speaks to a particular generosity of spirit. Women uncertain about any discipline can partner with teammates, allowing friends, family or colleagues to share the effort and the reward. This flexibility transforms the event into something beyond a simple competition: an opportunity for women to support one another, to build confidence and to experience collective achievement.
Within the broader competition, Emirati women will race for their own honours. A separate recognition acknowledges the top three Emirati finishers in both individual and team categories, celebrating the strength of women competitors from the Emirates themselves.
Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, framed the event’s significance in terms that reach beyond sport alone. “The World Triathlon Women’s Cup is about far more than one day of racing,” he explained. “We want it to be a lasting platform for women’s sport, inspiring more women and girls to take part, giving women athletes the visibility they deserve as role models, and building the confidence and ambition that carry into every part of life, including leadership.”
Debbie Alexander, Vice President of World Triathlon, emphasised the singular character of such gatherings. “Events where women racing their first ever triathlon can watch and compete at the same venue as the Elites are what makes our sport and this event so special,” she said. “We are able to show how international sport and the power of swim-bike-run can inspire women and young girls at every level.”

Though the event takes place in Dubai, it represents a significant moment for women’s sport across the broader UAE. The World Triathlon Women’s Cup signals the region’s commitment to creating platforms where women athletes receive visibility, support and opportunity to compete at the highest levels. This mirrors the growing emphasis across the Emirates on female participation in sport and physical activity as drivers of health, confidence and social engagement.
The event also reinforces the UAE’s position within the global sporting calendar, attracting international competitors and spectators whilst creating pathways for Emirati women to race on a world stage.
