Future Health launches global innovation challenge to translate health insights into real-world action

Abu Dhabi invites innovators worldwide to develop artificial intelligence and emerging technology solutions addressing fertility, population health and wellbeing, with a USD 105,000 prize pool supporting the transition from promising concepts to practical implementation.
Future Health – A Global Initiative by Abu Dhabi has opened applications for the Future Health Digital Innovation Challenge 2026, extending an invitation to innovators across the globe to develop artificial intelligence and emerging technology solutions that enable people and health systems to anticipate and address health needs with greater precision and speed.
The Challenge embodies Abu Dhabi’s strategic commitment to transforming healthcare from a reactive model focused on responding to illness towards a proactive framework centred upon anticipating health requirements. By uniting clinical expertise, integrated health information systems and technological sophistication, the emirate has cultivated an environment in which innovation can flourish around genuinely pressing health challenges and progress rapidly toward practical application.
Selected teams will benefit from comprehensive technical and clinical support drawn from Abu Dhabi’s extensive health and innovation ecosystem. This structured development programme enables participants to refine their concepts, validate their assumptions and construct working prototypes, thereby accelerating the journey from theoretical promise to tangible, measurable impact. Beyond the competition itself, selected solutions may advance through validation, incubation, piloting and scaling pathways.
The Challenge focuses upon three interconnected areas. Fertility initiatives explore how technology can illuminate reproductive health and potential, supporting more informed decision making for individuals and clinicians navigating fertility care. Population health solutions investigate how data and technology can identify emerging health risks, strengthen prevention and screening initiatives, and enable timely community response. Wellbeing innovations examine how technology can help individuals comprehend changes in their health status, sustain healthier behaviours and access increasingly personalised support over time.
Three finalists will progress to an awards ceremony at GITEX 2026, sharing a prize pool of USD 105,000. The winning team receives USD 50,000, whilst two finalists will receive USD 35,000 and USD 20,000 respectively. Beyond financial recognition, selected solutions may be considered for further development pathways following the programme’s conclusion.
Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, underscored the significance of this initiative, emphasising that digital innovation furnishes unprecedented opportunities to recognise health risks and requirements earlier, enabling healthcare systems to transition toward more proactive and personalised models of care. She highlighted Abu Dhabi’s commitment to nurturing an ecosystem where innovators can develop solutions in partnership with strong clinical capabilities, connected health information and advanced technological expertise.
The Challenge welcomes startups, researchers, developers, clinicians, students and entrepreneurs, whether applying individually or as multidisciplinary teams. Submissions may encompass new concepts, early-stage prototypes or existing solutions adaptable to the Challenge focus areas.
Co-created in collaboration with MBZUAI, Inception42 and Microsoft, the Challenge connects participants with expertise spanning artificial intelligence, technology development and solution-building, complemented by clinical and health-system perspectives from Abu Dhabi’s health ecosystem. Abu Dhabi’s established foundation in developing an integrated, intelligence-driven health system positions it as a model for preventive, personalised and data-enabled healthcare approaches that may benefit health systems globally.
The emirate’s existing health infrastructure provides substantial momentum for this endeavour. The Abu Dhabi Programme for the Future of Reproductive Health encompasses more than 2,000 experts across over 250 facilities, whilst 25 initiatives under the Abu Dhabi Healthy Living Strategy are advancing prevention and community wellbeing. Abu Dhabi is additionally exploring how wearable and longitudinal health information can be integrated to generate meaningful insights, support earlier intervention and strengthen health decision-making at individual and population levels.
Applications close on 15th November 2026.
