DEWA and Dubai Municipality unite to advance Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls

A landmark partnership agreement strengthens collaborative stewardship of one of the emirate's most enchanting destinations, ensuring its sustainable development and enduring appeal to residents and visitors alike.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Dubai Municipality have formalised their commitment to the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project through a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding, marking a significant milestone in the collaborative governance of this remarkable destination. The agreement was executed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA, and Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, during the 28th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The partnership exemplifies the integrated approach championed by the emirate’s visionary leadership to advance Hatta as a thriving hub of tourism, investment and community prosperity. Through this accord, Dubai Municipality assumes comprehensive responsibility for the stewardship, operation, maintenance and development of the waterfalls’ existing facilities, buildings and assets, whilst the agreement also encompasses the administration of commercial leasing arrangements for shops and facilities across the site.
By consolidating the administrative and operational frameworks governing the project, the two authorities have established a coherent structure that balances the preservation of Hatta’s pristine natural environment and cultural heritage with the advancement of sustainable economic opportunities for the region’s residents. The arrangement ensures rigorous oversight of all leased properties and commercial tenants in accordance with the emirate’s regulatory standards, thereby safeguarding the public interest and maintaining the destination’s exceptional character.
Al Tayer underscored the profound alignment between this partnership and the visionary directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, whose leadership has consistently championed Hatta’s comprehensive and sustainable development. Beyond its celebrated status as a tourist destination of considerable allure, the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project fulfils a multifaceted role in enriching the social fabric and economic vitality of the region, whilst providing meaningful employment and prosperity for local communities. The initiative stands as a testament to the commitment of both authorities to nurture Hatta’s distinctive identity whilst unlocking its considerable potential as an investment and leisure destination of genuine distinction.
