IMF Projects UAE Economic Growth of 7.7% in 2027

IMF Projects UAE Economic Growth of 7.7% in 2027

The International Monetary Fund has forecast robust economic expansion for the UAE, reflecting the nation's formidable financial resilience, sophisticated infrastructure and technological prowess.

The International Monetary Fund has projected that the UAE economy will expand by 7.7% in 2027, representing a substantial upward revision of 2.4 percentage points from forecasts issued in April. This pronounced optimism underscores the nation’s considerable financial buffers, advanced infrastructure capabilities and technological sophistication, positioning it to capitalise upon emerging opportunities whilst navigating contemporary regional and global challenges.

The projection emerged during a distinguished press conference convened by the Dubai International Financial Centre in collaboration with the IMF, themed “Resilience in the Face of Challenges: Diverging Economic Outlooks in the Middle East and North Africa.” Dr. Jihad Azour, Director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department, presented the October 2026 Regional Economic Outlook, with the event culminating in a comprehensive panel discussion featuring senior policymakers, economic specialists and private sector executives.

The IMF’s assessment emphasised the UAE’s substantial fiscal reserves, which afford considerable flexibility in deploying fiscal instruments to sustain economic momentum when circumstances warrant, all within a credible framework that preserves long-term fiscal sustainability. The report underscored the significance of sustained infrastructure investment, enhanced supply-chain efficiency and reinforced business continuity mechanisms.

Dr. Azour highlighted that economies across the region have demonstrated considerable resilience in confronting economic challenges, drawing upon accumulated experience and policies refined over recent years, including comprehensive measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic that successfully maintained economic activity and accelerated recovery trajectories.

Particularly noteworthy is the IMF’s assessment that the UAE stands among the nations most favourably positioned to harness rapid developments in artificial intelligence. Leveraging its precedent investments, sophisticated infrastructure and advanced technological capabilities, continued investment in AI could contribute an estimated 0.5 percentage points to annual economic growth. Across the broader Middle East and Central Asia region, AI adoption could enhance annual growth by between 0.1 and 0.6 percentage points over the medium term, contingent upon each nation’s technological readiness and deployment capabilities.

The report advocates sustained commitment to digital infrastructure development, human capital enrichment, skills advancement and vibrant innovation ecosystems, alongside cultivation of exportable AI-driven services for global markets. Such endeavours would substantially improve productivity metrics and establish more diversified foundations for sustainable expansion.

Regarding price stability, the IMF projects that average inflation across Gulf Cooperation Council nations will moderate to 2.4% in 2027 and subsequently stabilise at approximately 2% from 2028 onwards, supported by declining commodity prices and disciplined fiscal management.

The outlook emphasises that export diversification, development of alternative trade corridors and strengthened economic integration represent essential components in fortifying regional resilience against external disruptions. The IMF further underscores the strategic importance of enhanced transport and logistics infrastructure alongside improved trade connectivity among nations.

Investment in education, skills development and labour market adaptability emerge as vital catalysts for enhanced productivity and economic diversification, complemented by continued structural reforms, refinements to the investment landscape and an increasingly prominent role for the private sector.
