Ajman convenes inaugural media forum to examine who shapes the narrative in a digital age

As artificial intelligence, algorithms and digital platforms reshape how information flows, Ajman hosts THE SIGNAL, a gathering of media leaders, technologists and innovators to explore the future of trust, credibility and influence

The question feels newly urgent: who owns the signal? In an era when narratives form not in newsrooms alone but across algorithms, artificial intelligence systems and the feeds of countless content creators, the answer has grown vastly more complex. Ajman’s inaugural Media Forum, scheduled for 18 and 19 November, takes this question as its organising principle, bringing together strategic partners and international experts to examine the forces reshaping the media landscape and the responsibilities that accompany such transformation.

HE Mohammed Abdullah Al Kaabi, Executive Director of the Ajman Government Media Office, frames the forum’s urgency with clarity. “The ability to shape narratives and influence public opinion increasingly extends beyond traditional media institutions and channels,” he observed. “Digital platforms, algorithms, artificial intelligence and content creators are playing a growing role in determining how information is produced, distributed and consumed.” THE SIGNAL, the forum’s title, carries particular weight as a metaphor for influence and authority in an age of competing information sources.

The forum’s architecture reflects this multidisciplinary approach. Five key themes structure the two days of discussion: media transformations and the future of the industry; artificial intelligence in content creation; building trust and countering disinformation; national reputation and government communication; and digital platforms and the media economy. Each theme acknowledges that media no longer exists in isolation but intersects with technology, economics, culture and social responsibility in ways that demand collaborative thinking.

The breadth of strategic partnership underscores Ajman’s commitment to creating genuine dialogue rather than a conventional conference. The National Media Authority will support the development of platforms that empower national talent and foster innovation. The National Media Authority partners with Ajman Government Media Office to shape THE SIGNAL Forum, a 2026 platform exploring artificial intelligence, digital innovation and media’s future. Meanwhile, Ajman’s government has already begun reshaping public administration through AI-powered services, an initiative that informs the forum’s exploration of technology’s role in governance and communication.

Beyond conventional panels, the forum offers hands-on experiences designed to translate discussion into practical insight. The Mediathon brings participants together to tackle real-world media challenges through innovation and collaboration. The AI Media Lab offers live demonstrations of artificial intelligence applied to content generation and news verification, allowing visitors to understand these technologies’ capabilities and implications. Ajman Studios will provide dedicated spaces for interviews and original content production, extending the forum’s reach across multiple platforms.

The Department of Economic Development will showcase a dedicated pavilion featuring UAE-based creative media companies, creating opportunities for professional connection and investment exploration. TRENDS Group, through its five constituent companies spanning scientific research, strategic consultancy and artificial intelligence, will contribute research-driven perspectives on the sector’s transformation. Abu Dhabi Media Network and Arabian Radio Network will amplify the forum’s reach across television, print, digital and radio platforms, ensuring its insights reach audiences throughout the region.

An international dimension adds further complexity to the conversation: the forum will spotlight China’s advances in media and technology innovation, creating knowledge exchange and strengthening ties between the UAE and China. The roundtable bringing together media leaders and decision-makers will draw on data and research supported by specialised knowledge partners to generate actionable recommendations addressing emerging challenges and anticipating future developments.

What it means for Abu Dhabi

For the broader UAE, Ajman’s initiative signals a region increasingly conscious of its responsibility to shape media literacy, innovation and institutional trust in an age of rapid technological change. The forum’s explicit focus on building trust and countering disinformation reflects a commitment to informed citizenship and the protection of public discourse against emerging threats. By convening this conversation in Ajman, the emirate positions itself as a centre for serious media dialogue and research-driven thinking about the future of information.

The forum also reflects Ajman’s strategic embrace of artificial intelligence as a tool for advancing government services and creative economy development, themes explored through earlier initiatives including Ajman’s three-year artificial intelligence programme designed to reshape government financial operations. By bringing media, technology and government partners into conversation at THE SIGNAL, Ajman demonstrates how innovation thrives through collaboration across sectors and how responsible governance requires understanding the forces shaping public opinion and information flow.
