UAE Launches National Early Childhood Week to Celebrate the Formative Years
Under the distinguished patronage of H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ministry of Family and Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority unveil an ambitious initiative to champion child development and family engagement across the Emirates this November.
The United Arab Emirates will host its inaugural national Early Childhood Week from 16 to 22 November 2026, representing a significant milestone in the nation’s commitment to nurturing young minds during their most critical developmental years. Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, the initiative underscores the UAE’s strategic focus on family and child welfare.
Led by the Ministry of Family in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, the week is designed as part of the broader Year of Family national programmes. Operating under the inspirational theme “Every Moment Matters!”, the initiative seeks to elevate awareness regarding the profound importance of a child’s earliest years whilst strengthening the foundational role of families and caregivers in shaping developmental outcomes.
Sana bint Mohammed Suhail, Minister of Family, emphasised the transformative potential of this coordinated endeavour. “Early Childhood Week is a national initiative that brings together families, government entities, the private sector and community organisations within an integrated ecosystem that supports children during the most influential stage of their lives,” she stated. The Minister highlighted how expanding the week nationwide will foster meaningful partnerships, facilitate knowledge exchange, and deliver enriching experiences aligned with the UAE’s visionary leadership and commitment to advancing quality of life.
The scientific foundation for this initiative is compelling: by the age of five, approximately 90 per cent of brain development is complete, profoundly influencing a child’s capacity to learn, develop meaningful connections, and perceive their environment. Recognising this reality, the week will transform public spaces into vibrant, interactive learning and play environments, offering families practical opportunities for meaningful engagement.
The comprehensive programme encompasses play-based learning activities, workshops for parents and caregivers, family health and wellbeing experiences, artistic and musical performances, storytelling sessions, cultural and heritage activations, sports programmes, and community-focused initiatives. Collaborating organisations spanning the health, education, technology, sport and community sectors will deliver diverse experiences tailored to support holistic child development.
The momentum from previous iterations is remarkable. Last year’s edition attracted over 70 partners who delivered more than 300 activations across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, engaging 65,000 participants and generating nearly 55,000 hours of meaningful participation.
