Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Advances UAE Diplomatic Agenda at UN General Assembly
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs conducted a series of bilateral meetings in New York, reinforcing the Emirates' commitment to international cooperation and sustainable development.
During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in a series of substantive diplomatic discussions with senior foreign policy officials from multiple nations.
The Minister held separate meetings with H.R.H. Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei Darussalam, Iruthisham Adam of the Maldives, and Shishir Khanal of Nepal. These conversations centred upon deepening bilateral relationships and expanding cooperative frameworks across a diverse range of sectors encompassing economic development, trade and investment, cultural exchange, tourism, energy initiatives and artificial intelligence applications.
The discussions reflected a shared commitment to advancing mutual interests whilst fostering sustainable development and collective prosperity. Delegates exchanged perspectives on significant matters featured within the General Assembly’s current agenda, alongside an assessment of contemporary regional and international circumstances.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering dedication to nurturing its global partnerships and establishing robust mechanisms for constructive engagement. This commitment aims to support sustainable development objectives whilst strengthening international security, stability and economic advancement.
The meetings additionally addressed preparations for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, which the UAE will co-host with the Republic of Senegal from 8th to 10th December. The participants underscored the critical importance of enhancing international collaboration and coordinated approaches to address pressing water challenges whilst promoting responsible stewardship of water resources globally.
In a separate engagement, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah met with Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. This discussion examined contemporary regional and international developments, explored opportunities to strengthen humanitarian cooperation and coordination mechanisms, and emphasised the importance of supporting international initiatives aimed at enhancing humanitarian response capacity and reducing the impact of crises affecting vulnerable populations.
The series of meetings was attended by Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State; Saeed Al Hajeri, Minister of State; and Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, reflecting the significance accorded to these diplomatic engagements.
