Abu Dhabi Summit to Champion Shift Towards Anticipatory Healthcare

Future Health – A Global Initiative by Abu Dhabi has called for a transformative shift in global health systems, moving from reactive treatment to predictive intervention ahead of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit 2026.

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has underscored the imperative for healthcare systems to evolve beyond conventional approaches, emphasising the capacity to identify and act upon health risks before conditions deteriorate. This vision will take centre stage at the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, scheduled for 20–22 October, which carries the provocative theme “To Sense is to Predict”.

Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, articulated the strategic vision: “The next chapter of health will be defined by our ability to act earlier. Scientific and technological advances are helping us understand risk with greater precision, but their value lies in how effectively we translate that understanding into better care and healthier lives.”

The initiative leverages remarkable progress in genomics, precision medicine and artificial intelligence to enhance our understanding of health risks. Yet the fundamental challenge remains translating this sophisticated knowledge into timely, effective interventions supported by appropriate policies, investment, workforce development and public confidence.

A cornerstone of Future Health’s approach comprises the Abu Dhabi Blueprints—a knowledge-sharing platform drawing upon the Emirate’s expertise across six critical health domains: longevity, healthy living, fertility, cancer, rare diseases, and genomics and therapeutics. These blueprints facilitate international dialogue, enabling nations and policymakers to examine how approaches developed in Abu Dhabi’s advanced health ecosystem can inform progress elsewhere.

Future Health’s Founding Partners—PureHealth, M42, the Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi and Mubadala Bio—represent a collaborative approach spanning healthcare delivery, research, technology and life sciences. Their shared commitment centres on translating predictive capability into measurable health improvements.

The Summit will convene over 130 speakers across three days, addressing anticipatory health, health financing, women’s health, world health security and infectious disease preparedness. Distinguished participants include Dr Fatima Al Kaabi, Director General of Emirates Drug Establishment; Sir Martin Evans, Nobel Laureate in Medicine; and health ministers from Armenia, Egypt, Montenegro, Kosovo and Colombia.

Three winning teams from the inaugural Future Health Challenge, developed with MIT Solve, will showcase solutions addressing earlier detection of health risks, population-level monitoring and accelerated decision-making by health authorities—practical capabilities essential for anticipatory healthcare systems.

Future Health operates a comprehensive year-round programme addressing four pivotal areas: longevity and personalised precision medicine; digital health and artificial intelligence; resilience and sustainability of healthcare systems; and investment in life sciences. This integrated approach connects emerging research with evidence, expertise, funding and pathways to implementation scale.
