Al Qasimia University Celebrates Intergenerational Bonds Through Barakat Al Bait Initiative

Al Qasimia University has organised a meaningful programme honouring older persons, bringing together senior citizens and students to celebrate shared heritage and strengthen community values.
Al Qasimia University marked the International Day of Older Persons with the launch of its “Barakat Al Bait” initiative, a collaborative endeavour designed to foster deeper connections between generations whilst celebrating the wisdom and contributions of senior citizens to Emirati society.
Led by Professor Dr Awad Al Khalaf, Chancellor of AQU, the event was organised in partnership with the Deanship of Student Affairs and the Home Care Centre of Sharjah Social Services Department. The occasion brought together university leadership, including Deputy Chancellors Ahlam Bin Jarsh and Professor Dr Suleiman Al Sarayrah, Dean of Student Affairs, alongside senior citizens and members of the university community.
The programme embodied Al Qasimia University’s institutional commitment to strengthening bonds across age groups and promoting the fundamental values of kindness, loyalty and genuine appreciation for the elderly. By creating a space where students could engage meaningfully with older persons, the initiative provided valuable opportunities for young people to draw upon accumulated experiences and cultural knowledge, whilst deepening their awareness of Emirati social and cultural heritage.
“The ‘Barakat Al Bait’ initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening students’ bonds with senior citizens, recognising the experiences and authentic values they embody and their indispensable contributions to building our society,” Professor Dr Al Khalaf remarked. He underscored how such programmes cultivate students’ sense of humanitarian and social responsibility, qualities essential to their personal development and future roles as engaged citizens.
The university’s leadership further emphasised that celebrating senior citizens reflects the broader values of loyalty and solidarity that define the UAE community, reinforcing the cultural fabric that binds society together across generations.
The day’s activities encompassed cultural, sporting and recreational competitions engaging both senior citizens and university students in spirited and inclusive participation. Heritage workshops formed a significant element, offering immersive experiences of traditional Emirati customs and practices, thereby ensuring the preservation and appreciation of cultural identity amongst younger generations.
